PHILIPSBURG--The contract for the first phase of repairs to the police stations in Philipsburg and Simpson Bay was signed by Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin and contractor Luca Benmoha of Aluminum Systems BV on Tuesday. This first phase costs a little more than US $400,000 and is funded via the Dutch government-financed, World Bank-administrated Recovery Trust Fund.
The signing signalled the start of works as of Wednesday, January 9. The completion is expected at the beginning of April.
Justice Minister Cornelius de Weever and Chief of Police Carl John witnessed the contract signing.
De Weever thanked the prime minister and World Bank for their assistance in getting the project moving so repairs can be completed before the 2019 hurricane season.
“I am well aware that the staff of the Police Force is eager to see the works start, with the goal of improving their working environment,” said De Weever.
Romeo-Marlin thanked all persons involved in the project, including the Police Force project team, the Infrastructure Ministry’s technical team and the Interim Recovery Committee “for their hard work thus far.”
