AIRPORT--Windward Islands Airways International Winair announced on Tuesday, July 14, that it has discontinued its flights to Curaçao and Aruba effective immediately. The airline said the discontinuation was due to extremely low load factors on its aircraft.
In commercial aviation, passenger load factor is generally used to assess how efficiently an airline fills seats and generates fare revenue. Low load factors indicate that an airline is carrying only a small percentage of the maximum number of passengers it can transport on a given flight.
“The effects of COVID-19 continue to cause negative consequences on the regional population … As Winair continues to move forward in the region, cognizant of the uncertainty in our historic markets remaining a challenge, Winair continues to serve Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Barths and Antigua from our hub in St. Maarten.
“In these difficult times Winair remains committed to working within the region to re-establish reliable, safe and consistent service … [We thank our – Ed.] customers for their confidence and patronage and we look forward to serving you in the future,” said Winair in a press release on Tuesday morning.
