WITU celebrating Women’s Day with breakfast for its members

PHILIPSBURG--In observance of International Women’s Day on March 8, the Status of Women Committee of the Windward Islands Teachers Union (WITU) will host a breakfast for its members at the Infinity Restaurant in Oyster Bay Beach Resort on Saturday, March 7, from 9:00 to 11:00am.

The theme of this year’s Women’s Day is: “I am Generation Equality: Realising Women’s Rights”. The theme is aligned with UN Women’s new multigenerational campaign Generation Equality, which marks the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, said WITU on Thursday.

“The year 2020 is a pivotal year for advancing gender equality worldwide, as the global community takes stock of progress made for women’s rights since the adoption of the Beijing Platform for Action,” said WITU.

WITU said the goal of the breakfast is to highlight that “the year 2020 represents an unmissable opportunity to mobilise global action to achieve gender equality and human rights of all women and girls.”

WITU advised members who are interested in attending that they are required to RSVP to the invitation on its Facebook page, on or before Wednesday, March 4, as space is limited.

The keynote speaker will further discuss and elaborate on this year’s Women’s Day theme, concluded the union.
