Maley with his Yoda puppet at the convention.
PHILIPSBURG--St Maarten resident and Star Wars celebrity Nick “Yoda Guy” Maley returned to his movie museum on Front Street last week after appearing as a guest at the “For The Love Of Sci-Fi” convention in Manchester, England, recently.
Celebrities in attendance included Incredible Hulk Lou Ferrigno, Predator and Rocky stars Jesse Ventura, Carl Weathers and Brigitte Nielsen, Stranger Things stars Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin, the Rogue One Darth Vader Spencer Wilding and other personalities from Star Wars, Ghost Busters and ET.
“It was a great weekend,” Maley said in a press statement on Monday. “I really enjoy these entertainment conventions – doing panels, answering fans’ questions, seeing old friends and making new ones.”
Maley took with him the fully functional Yoda puppet that he built in St Maarten in 2016. It is the only animatronic puppet worldwide that is built exactly the same way as the 1979 original. While there, he and Yoda conducted the Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra playing Yoda’s Theme and the Star Wars Imperial March.
“Yoda is becoming an ambassador for St. Maarten,” Maley said. “I talk to many fans about visiting the island. I tell them that one of the best joys of going away is returning to my island home.”
