PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad--Water tanks are being given to underprivileged persons in Chaguanas, to ease some of the water woes being experienced by those residents.
According to Guardian Media, the Chaguanas Borough Corporation (CBC) started distribution of the tanks on Thursday May 28.
Chaguanas Mayor Vandana Mohit revealed that the corporation has been inundated with calls for help during the current water crisis.
“The Council of the Chaguanas Borough Corporation purchased 40 water tanks for emergency water relief, to assist burgesses who are below the low-income earnings level, and who currently are facing a water crisis in parts of Chaguanas,” the mayor explained.
She noted that the Borough has been liaising and working with WASA (the Water and Sewerage Authority) and has received all the requested support from the authority.
“However, the water supply within the Enterprise and Longdenville areas is a major challenge at this time,” she pointed out. “As such, we have chosen to assist those particular residents so they can at least receive a truck-borne supply for their usage."
Mohit said a needs assessment was done to ensure the tanks went to those persons who are in dire need of assistance. ~Trinidad and Tobago Guardian~
