KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent and the Grenadines--A 14-year-old girl has become the youngest murder convict in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The teen, who was 12 years old when she killed 15-year-old Intermediate High School student and former friend Moesha Primus, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. According to The Vincentian newspaper, because she pleaded guilty to the offence and did not go through a trial, she got a one-third discount on her sentence, taking her period of imprisonment to eight years, and she must serve at least six years of that time.
The newspaper also reported that she will continue her schooling while behind bars, as ordered by Justice Kathy Ann Latchoo, and will be kept away from the general prison population.
The minor admitted on November 30 this year to killing Primus on June 18, 2015, and was sentenced earlier this month. Primus was fatally stabbed in the chest during a scuffle.
According to the facts of the case reported by The Vincentian, the teenager and Primus were once friends but by the day of the offence, they were no longer on speaking terms.
That day, the pre-teen and a young male companion, both carrying concealed knives, went to Primus’ home and demanded the return of an article of clothing. The two girls had an argument and the younger one challenged Primus to come down from her porch, which she did. The girls scuffled and Primus was stabbed once in the chest. Primus shouted out that she had been stabbed and her sister came out of the house and wrested the knife from the assailant.
Primus was taken to hospital but she died shortly after the stabbing. ~ Caribbean360 ~
