For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

Active Systems:

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Philippe, located about 650 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands. According to the Meteorological Department of St. Maarten (MDS) in its 6:00am weather bulletin the cyclone was moving towards the west at 12 mph (19km/h). Maximum sustained winds remained near 45 mph (75km/h) with higher gusts. Its closest point to St. Maarten is now predicted to be approximately 79 miles (127 km) north on Saturday. Gradual weakening is expected over the next few days.

Central Tropical Atlantic (AL91):

thumbnail two atl 7d0Showers and thunderstorms continue to show signs of organization in association with an area of low pressure located roughly halfway between the Cabo Verde Islands and the Lesser Antilles. Environ-mental conditions are forecast to be conducive for development, and a tropical depression or storm is expected to form in the next day or so while the system moves west-northwestward across the cen-tral tropical Atlantic.
