136 school girls take part in La Saint-Martinoise Girls race

MARIGOT-- The Avenir Sportif Club de Saint Martin (ASCSM) welcomed schoolchildren to the La Saint-Martinoise Girls race on Wednesday.

In numbers, this third edition saw 178 girls register, with 136 starters from six primary schools and the island's three secondary schools for the 2km race. The respective winners in their class categories were Kathia Boutin Corea (CM2), Nailah Boucaud (5eme), Akilaika Lake (CMI), and Lea Mercader (6eme) The event was held in a friendly atmosphere in the village set up on Galisbay. In this Olympic year, there was no godmother but a godfather, Alain Gros Désormeaux, the President of the CTOS (Comité Territorial Olympique de Saint-Barthélémy et Saint-Martin), who launched the race and presented the girls with their cups. The club was keen to point out that the Olympic Games have long been off-limits to women, and that it was important for sport to be as feminine as possible. As for the women, Dahlia's Fitness Workout provided a musical warm-up and Zumba session before and after the race. The raffle, run by Kathy Africa, was a great success, with some happy and some disappointed, but everyone went home with a medal and a diploma. The ASCSM looks forward to seeing the girls next year and thanks the schools and colleges for their participation, as well as the sponsors who made the event possible.
