3rd Annual Get Fit To Fete Fit-A-Thon this Saturday

PHILIPSBURG—St. Maarten Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (SMBBFA) is organising the third edition of Get Fit-to-Fete this Saturday, April 1, 2017.

“This event is a creation of exciting mobile aerobics accompanied by music and choreographers with the crowd emulating their actions,” explained SMBBFA President Martina Rodney-Jones. “The event has grown in the past two years and the public has been looking forward to a repeat. People think it's a walkathon and I have to keep correcting them and tell them it's a Fit-A-Thon.
“I tell them picture Jouvert morning but without the alcohol and everyone moving in the same motion, it's a beautiful display. Aerobics is stationary and usually carried out in a in a room but we took it a step further and brought it not only onto the road but kept it moving. With the Bodybuilding Association it's all about fitness and health!”
The event starts at 5:00am at the parking lot next to Telem, going on to the Pond fill road, Bush Road, turning at the roundabout at Le Grand Marche, back down the Bush road and on to the Pond fill, turning at the Sundial School roundabout and finishing back in the parking lot.
“We are generally in the parking lot by 7:00am as that is when the sun really starts to bear down and traffic starts to get busy,” added Rodney Jones “We are escorted by the Police and the Red Cross is on hand. The event is a splendour of colours as participants adorn the road in bright neon pink, orange, yellow and green t-shirts, it's a beautiful sight to behold with the mixture of colours.
“In addition to a great work-out, water, Gatorade, Vita Malt and Special K shakes are available. After the post work-out apples, tangerines and sandwiches are handed out. You get all of this for just a small price of US $10.”
The President mentioned that two persons with the most creative wear will be given a free ticket to the National Championships 2017 along with a complimentary drink. Use glitters, dyes or if you feel like cutting up your shirt which most persons do, that’s okay. It's all about creativity and originality. You get a great work out and have lots of fun doing so.
She went on to say that she is aware that persons will be attending the Lighted Parade which is also held on the same day but in the night so the suggestion is for persons to use this event as a pre-warm up to get ready for that.
Tickets are on sale from SMBBFA members or call 580 4430/522 6308//581 8976 or 586 1407. Proceeds go towards the athletes who will be representing St. Maarten at the Central American & Caribbean (CAC) Body Building & Fitness Championships to be held in Mexico this year as well as future endeavours of the association.
