VCG’s Adélio Brooks, in middle, on the podium for first junior to finish Sunday’s 145k race.
MARIGOT—Velo Club de Grand Case (VCG) rider Adélio Brooks emerged third best Junior rider overall at the close of the 31st “Six Jours de Credit Agricole” race in Guadeloupe on Sunday. In all, there were 15 juniors.
The final 145K race from Lamentin to Petit Perou on Sunday saw 111 starters whittled down to 78 after 30 abandoned the race for various reasons and three did not start. It was an excellent race for Brooks who finished in 17th place and first junior.
VCG elite rider Rivera Guerrero Ever finished in fourth place and was fourth overall in the Classement General. Team mate Olivier Curier finished in sixth place while Parra Suarez Hernan Dario took 25th place. However, Parra Suarez won the polka dot jersey for Best Hill Climber of the race.
Alban Clerc riding in the highly competitive Espoir category (with 22 riders) finished in 32nd place. “It was tough for Alban with a lot of pressure on him at this level,” commented VCG President St. Elmo “Mote” Arnell. “He needs more competition at this level, it’s the only way to improve.”
Another junior from St. Martin, Kenrick Cozier riding for Association Cycliste du Levant, was one of the riders who did not finish the last race. But the cause was not immediately known. Cozier is attending school in Guadeloupe.
The Crédit Agricole race was split over two weekends, three races on each. The overall winner of the race was Lionel Miny (Jeunesse Cycliste des Abymes), second Gregory Errin (Uni Sport Lamentin) and third Kelian Duro (Velo Club Saintannais).
