Akeem Lewis wins WKN world title for St. Maarten

Marigot—St. Maarten Kickboxer and MMA fighter and instructor Akeem Lewis (29) returned to the ring after almost of a year of cancelled fights.

On this comeback he immediately secured a World Kickboxing Network (WKN) amateur Heavy weight world title in an event that took place Saturday night at the Hall des sports, Marigot. He fought against Enzo Audoui who has a record of 10 fights with 8 wins Three other title fights took place that night In which French St Martin secured two title fights. James Hamlet from French St Martin club Caribbean Karata Oyama defeated Angelo Limonta from Team Audoui from Guadeloupe for a WKN Caribbean junior amateur title Glenn Sallee from French St Martin club Caribbean Karata Oyama defeated Aymeric Barul from Team Audoui from Guadeloupe for a WKN Caribbean Amateur title. Kimberly Reymond from French St Martin club Caribbean Karata Oyama lost against Hilarie Frecinet from Team Audoui from Guadeloupe for a WKN European amateur title . The fight between Akeem Lewis and Enzo Audoui took off very active with Enzo attacking Akeem aggressively with powerful leg attacks and punch flurries. Akeem paced himself and calmly responded to the attacks. 10 seconds before the end of 1st round Akeem send a high round house kick to the head of Enzo which send him to the canvas. He got up quick but stunned, and the referee gave him a standing eight count. After the eight-count Akeem applied more pressure but the bell rang quickly. The second and third round went fairly even with both fighters landing attacks back and forth. Where Enzo tried to land hard punches while Akeem attacked with heavy kicks. In round 4 Akeem stepped up the pace and landed several high kicks to the head and knees to the body. Enzo ended covering up in the corner to survive. When the referee broke them up, Enzo tried to clinch to avoid the powerful attacks of Akeem. Akeem countered the clinch with a throw which landed Enzo on the canvas. The Guadeloupean seemed drained and hardly made it up to his feet. After he manafged to get up more attacks came and the bell rang which most likely saved him from a knock out. The judges unanimously declared Akeem Lewis the new WKN amateur World title holder and a beautiful champions belt was strapped on Akeem. Akeem Lewis and his team trains 3 times a week at Renzo Gracie BJJ school in Colebay.
