MARIGOT—The usual suspects didn't disappoint on Sunday at the Sandy Ground Fête cycle race with Patricio "Blade" Carty winning the Seniors category and Otis Cotton winning the sprint for the line in the Masters category.
It was eight laps to La Samanna and back for the Seniors and Juniors, and five laps for Masters and Ladies.
ASM's Carty was clearly a favourite to win Seniors but Mo Trouble's tenacious Mark Maidwell dug deep to finish second with powerhouse Joost Huele from the Cyclone Club taking third. Idor Gabin was fourth and youngster Hennis Hasani from Double Trouble trailed in fifth place.
Mo Trouble's Otis Cotton edged VCG's Arnaud Gosse to win the Masters. ASM's Romeo Lake was third and Ronan Garnier took fourth.
Cotton was forced to light an after burner after Gosse caught up to him in the sprint for the line.
"I don't know how he got that close," said Cotton after the race. "I attacked him by the guard house on the last hill in Lowlands on the last lap and thought that I had got rid of him. I was shocked to see he caught up. From the beginning Romeo and I had been out front keeping up the pressure."
Cotton improved on his second place in the Masters category at the Grand Case Fête race.
The women's race saw Annelies Starreveld bounce back to win after being trounced by Murielle Lancien-Paul the week before. Liesbeth De Falco was second with Nicole Erato third. Murielle dropped off the pace to finish in fourth and Susy Piscione retired.
The Juniors category was won by ASM's Bannis Ridge with Shaquan Hodge (Double Trouble) in second.
The afternoon kid's races saw wins for Jahkim Carty (ASM) in Pupilles, Kenny Carty (ASM) in Benjamins and Jacques dieu Noe (VCG) in Cadets.
This coming weekend is the 3rd Youth Radio Cycling Challenge. According to Cycling Committee President Daniel Remi, 15 ladies have registered. Participating countries include Martinique and Guadeloupe.
