SUCKER GARDEN--Garrey "Brell" Ricardo won the 5th annual Rik's Memorial 8-Ball Tournament at Margarita Sports Bar on Arch Rd, Sucker Garden starting Friday and finishing Sunday.
Brell faced Josue Richardsley Hyacinthe in a race to five wins in the final. “It was a vice versa game with 3 games each until Brell got more focused and played Josue with defense if he had no clear shot.” said organizer Raul Edillo. “He played excellent sure shots without mistake and won the finals and took the big, tall 4 posts trophy and $1000.00 cash.” A total of 16 billiard shooters participated in the 3 double elimination bracket tournament systems. The competition started with Margarita, wife of late Rik Geurds, breaking the first 8 ball pool rack. “The A players were very well scattered, so the B players had a fair chance,” said Edillo. Hyacinthe placed second and received $500.00 cash and a large cup trophy. Junior James Philips was third and went home with $200 plus a medium cup trophy. The competition was sponsored by Franklin David of SXM Concrete and MP Chanel Brownbill of the United People's Party. “St. Maarten has a lot of very good billiard pool players that can surely represent our island internationally,” concluded Edillo.
