Doram's 7 for 29 gives LI massive Super50 win

TAROUBA, Trinidad—St. Maarten and Leeward Islands cricket left-arm spinner Daniel Doram spun a web around defending champions of the Super50 Jamaica to secure a massive victory for the Leeward Islands at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.

Doram registered outstanding bowling figures of 7 for 29 off 9.5 overs to help bowl out Jamaica for a paltry 123 off 32.5 overs in the 50 overs affair. In response, the Leeward Islands won the match by just 14 overs, 124 for two.
After the Leeward Islands newly installed Captain Alzarri Joseph grabbed the first two wickets with only eight runs on the board in the third over and Justin Greaves collected the third wicket in the seventh over, Doram grabbed the last seven wickets to orchestrate a massive batting collapse. From 50 for three, Doram ensured the Jamaicans did not recover to a respectable total. One of his outstanding wickets was that of Nkrumah Bonner for 24 off 29 balls (5 fours). Bonner hit back a ball to Doram, who took a low sprawling catch to his left to remove the second top scorer for the Jamaicans. Odean Smith was the top scorer with 26 off 30 balls (1 four, 2 sixes).
In the process, Doram created history by registering the third-best bowling figures in a List A match in West Indies domestic cricket. After the match, Doram told reporters that the pitch played in favour of the spinners once you bowled on the wicket. It did everything for you. He also said in the off-season, he benefitted from a spin bowling camp in India and also training in the Caribbean. Doram, in just his third match for the Leeward Islands Hurricanes, has also represented the Netherlands, and Yorkshire is hoping for a great Super50 tournament.
The star batsman for the Leeward Islands was former Captain Kieran Powell, who blasted 80 off 36 balls (6 fours, 6 sixes). The other batsmen in double figures were Karima Gore with 19 not out off 21 not out (2 fours) and Kofi James with 12 off 15 balls (2 fours).
The Leeward Islands skipped to the top of the table with 10 points, although the Guyana Harpy Eagles (7 points) also had one win. The Leeward Islands won four additional bonus points with this big win.
The tournament continues today with Trinidad and Tobago Red Force versus Windward Islands Volcanoes at the Queens Park Oval from 9:30am and the West Indies Academy Team against Combined Colleges and Campuses in Torouba from 1:30pm.
