PHILIPSBURG--Former pro baseball players Rafel Skeete from St. Maarten and Andrew Dee
Dixon from Jamaica will host a baseball camp, coach’s clinic and try out starting August 10.
The summer camp will be divided into two sessions. The morning session starting at 9:00am will be held at John Copper Jose lake Sr. Ballpark in Cul de Sac and the afternoon session will start at 2:30pm at Little League Stadium on Pond Island.
Cost of the camp for athletes, age four to 20, will be US $150 per week.
Skeete played for the Baltimore Orioles and Milwaukee Brewers and will
be assisted in the training by Dixon from the Giants and Brewers.
Following the week of camp try-outs will be held for athletes age 17 and up. The try out is free to all campers age 17 and up or US $50 for non-campers.
“We will also be holding a try out for players 17 and older for our Sports Academy where all that’s selected will be a part of our team that will be preparing for college and the professional level,” said Skeete.
Skeet is part of the Warriors Sports Academy in Atlanta.
“The Sports Academy is a rigorous post-graduate academic-athletic program for
students who wish to continue their desire to earn a four-year scholarship at
an accredited four year college,” said Skeete. “The program pushes students in practice, tests their character and leadership, and gets them committed to their education.
Skeete was kwon as one of the fastest base stealers in the Orioles organization. In 1988 he set the Carolina Minor League record swiping 54 bases on just 66 attempts. Skeete played pro ball until 2001 when he was injured. In 2002 and 2003 he was the varsity baseball head coach at Moon Valley High School in Phoenix Arizona.
