General Auto Repairs Spartans are Pepsi Gatorade champs

CUL DE SAC--Two familiar finalists met for the Pepsi Gatorade championship trophy; but in the end, the General Auto Repairs Spartans prevailed to lift the coveted trophy.

On a day that was overcast and on pitch that was iffy because of early morning rain soaked it water, NAGICO United Cricket Club won the toss and decided to insert Spartans. The move looked logical at the beginning considering the overcast condition and the pitch but in the end the Spartans chalked up a massive 159 for three in 15 overs. The overs were reduced because of a delayed start because of the rain.
The pitch did not help the bowlers as was expected. Fast bowler Nathan Edward used his skill to swing the ball through the defense of local West Indies U19 star Keacy Carty for 12 off eight balls. And then, Captain Kenroy David and Akeem Charles combined for an entertaining 103-run partnership for the second wicket. David played fluently to score freely while Charles was brutal as ever. Charles topscored with 63 off just 32 balls (3x4, 6x6). David was left not out on 61 off 41 balls (7x4, 1x6). The other batsman to be dismissed was Sherwin Peters with 15 off nine balls (1x4, 1x6).
The best bowler for NAGICO was Edward with one for 30 off three overs.
NAGICO’s response needed an explosion of destructive proportion but a self-inflicted destruction saw them crumble to 18 for five inside the fourth over. Iassie Gabriel was given leg before wicket to the first ball that saw him and the wicketkeeper moving towards the leg side. His opening partner Randell Longville decided to run a non-existent second run (7 for 2), Romain Doodnauth (6) edged to slip where Peters held on to a low sharp catch (15 for 3), Tyanick Honore found a fielder instead of a boundary to a first-ball-full-toss (15 for 4) and then Lionel Ritchie, with much to do swung wildly and was bowled for 2 (18 for 5).
Mrinal Wadhwa and Stephen Evans steady the ship with 52-run partnership but the longer they batted together the more it looked like the they had thrown in the towel. Wadhwa hit 53 off 47 balls (6x4) and Evans 19 off 23 balls (3x4) to highlight their slow reply to the target.
NAGIGO reached 91 for six after 15 overs.
The best bowler for Spartans was Jean Rene Belizar with three for 19 off three overs.
David was named the man of the match.
At the presentation, Danny Ramchandani, the owner of Duty Free World N.V. was on hand to hand over the championship trophy to Spartans.
