MAC J.A. Gumbs goes undefeated to win Primary School Netball Championship

 PHILIPSBURG—Two undefeated teams faced each other to claim the 2023 Interscholastic Primary School Netball Championship. Methodist Agocic Center J.A. Gumbs met Hillside Christian School in the final at L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium Sunday.


MAC JAG took the early lead 4-2 and maintained it throughout the whole match to win 17-10.
Both teams came into the match with enthusiasm and determination to become the champion. For MAC JAG GS Ruth Paul and GA Tyler Timothy scored respectively 12 and 5 goals. For HC GS Sina Delice and GA Aljenee Henry scored 7 and 3.
In the first match which for seventh and eighth place, St. Joseph defeated MAC B.F. Maillard 5-3. The quarterly scores were JOS-MAC BFM 2-1, 2-1, 3-1 and 5-3.
For St. Joseph GA Jannileyris Peterson and GS Ashley Campbell scored 3 and 2 goals respectively. MAC BFM GS Olivia Whyte scored 2 goals and GA Jaliayah Philips scored 1.
In the match for fifth and sixth place Leonald Connor (LC) met M.G. de Weever (MGdW). This was an electrifying game that went to the wire tied 10-10. The match went into overtime of five minutes where the first team that scored two goals would win.
Ultimately MGdW won the match 12- 11. The partials of the match were MGdW-LC 1-5, 6-5, 8-6, 10-10 and OT 12-11. For MGdW GA Fabrisha scored 10 goals and GS Adriantely Doran 2. LC’s GS Trinitie Bell scored 7 goals and GA Teshagay Bromfield scored 4.
The third final classification match was between Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) and Sr. Borgia (BOR). SDA won the third place match with the score 10-4. BOR’s GS Kaylee Thomas all the 4 goals. SDA’s GS Shinaya Cetoute and GA Nascika Richards both scored 5 goals each.
The honorable Minister of ECYS Drs. R. Samuel, Department of Sports Manager Ms. J. Richardson with assistance of the president of the Sint Maarten Netball Association Ms. Jaghaira Lioe-A-Tjam gave out the individual awards, medals and trophies to the players and teams. The umpires Azareah Bontiff, Natasha Busby, Leann Ford and Jeanel Landefort also received recognition for their work during the tournament.  Jaghaira Lioe-A-Tjam with national team head coach Mellica “Lisa” Timothy-Boothe presented a token of appreciation to Minister Samuel.
Sanai Newton was named Best Defender. Ruth Pual was Best Shooter and Most Valuable Player. Aljenee Henry was Best Midcourt Player. Zinnia Durrant was Player of the Series and the Youngest Player was D'Enilia Gardner.
