St. Maarten Concrete brings together best local teams

Exciting and explosive St. Maarten Concrete T20 semi-final cricket matches will be played at Caribe Lumber Ballpark this weekend.

CU DE SAC--The four top teams in the St. Maarten Concrete T20 tournament will be locked in battle in two semi-finals at Caribe Lumber Ballpark on Sunday.

First-placed NAGICO United Cricket Club will take on fourth-placed Masters from 9:30am, and then second-placed General Auto Repairs Spartans will match skills with WINAIR Conquerors from 1:30pm. The winner of the two semi-finals will take on each other in the grand final next week from 1:30pm, while the two losers will square off from 9:30am for the third-place trophy.

The teams to miss out of a semi-final place were Future Champs and Gladiators.

In the preliminary round, all the teams played one another twice. NAGICO was the only team to win all of its completed matches. Spartans won seven matches – had two matches rained out and lost one match. Conquerors won four matches, forfeited two matches and lost two matches. Conquerors will play their last preliminary match against Future Champs today from 1:30pm. A win or loss for the French-side team will not alter their standing in the points table. They will keep the third position either way. Masters won four matches and lost six, but still qualified for a semi-final match.

For the semi-final match-up, both NAGICO and Spartans will be stepping into play with an air of confidence after defeating the opposition in the preliminary round. NAGICO defeated Masters by 90 runs and 70 runs while Spartans beat Conquerors by nine wickets and the second match was rained out.

Look out for the top run scorers for each team. The leading run scorers for the teams are as follows; NAGICO-Stephen Evans, Spartans-Akeem Charles, Conquerors-Lerry Baptiste, Masters-Evans again, Gladiators-Gregorio Ritchie and Future Champs-Nathan Edwards.

For every match in this tournament, St. Maarten Concrete pledged to give US $50.00 for each man-of-the-match and US $50.00 for the player who hit the most sixes. Most of the players have received the prize money from the sponsor so far.

Cricket fans are expected to be treated to some exciting cricket matches because of how much is at stake. All four teams are expected to bring their A-game, but only two of the four teams could win. May the better team win!
