St. Maarten Masters sends strong team to LI tournament

Lerry Baptiste, the leading run scorer for Masters in the ongoing Motorworld T20 challenge will be on show for St. Maarten in the Leeward Islands Masters tournament in Anguilla.

CUL DE SAC—A strong team of cricketers will represent St. Maarten in the annual Leeward Islands (LI) tournament in Anguilla from today, Friday.
The Leeward Islands Masters tournament will showcase five teams in defending champion St. Kitts, Antigua, Nevis, St. Maarten and host Anguilla.
The St. Maarten team, who has yet to win this tournament in more than five years, is now bolstered by a formidable team. Of note, specialist batsmen in Romain Doodnauth and Dwayne Elgin will join the team for the first time, bringing a new wave of potential. Both are former national cricketers who were prolific batsmen in their heyday.
Doodnauth is also a canny left-arm spinner who is expected to succeed at this level.
Also, look out for Lerry Baptiste, the leading run scorer for Masters in the ongoing Motorworld T20 challenge. He has scored a century and two-half centuries for Masters to help them advance to the B-Division final.
Captain Danga Farrell, Stephen Evans, Raphael Baptiste, and Kern Saunders, the regular support cast, are set to add value to the team as usual.
St. Maarten’s journey in the tournament begins today with matches against Nevis at 10:00 am and Antigua at 2:00 pm. The stakes get higher as they face St. Kitts at 10:00 am on May 18 and Anguilla at 10:00 am on May 19.

The final will be played between the two top teams from 2:00 pm on May 19.
