MARIGOT—A basketball selection from Marigot and French Quarter returned to St. Martin Sunday after winning a tournament in Guadeloupe. The team left for Guadeloupe on August 13.
The St. Martin team played against the teams of Etoile de L’Ouest and Luciole de Pointe-Noire, winning the first match against Luciole 48-16 and the second against Etoile 39-30.
The Speedy Plus Association whose President is Calvin Bryan, set up an activity called “Holi Basketball Tour", as part of the Contrat de Ville with the Collectivité and Préfecture of the Northern Islands.
The activity was initiated by Alan Nérome, who was responsible in St. Martin for the holiday contract activities organised last year.
??He noticed that there were young people who had qualities, but they were missing coaching", noted Calvin Bryan. “That’s when Speedy Plus stepped in and we set up this event together. "
The young players mainly from Marigot and Quartier d ' Orléans began training before 11 players were selected to face the Guadeloupe teams. As a former coach of the Etoile de l ' Ouest and La Luciole de Pointe-Noire, Bryan Calvin organised this trip.
The latter brought renowned coach, Patrick Seremes, who was trained and supervised by Bryan and who is a former professional at the national level. This coach came to teach skills to the young players before their trip to Guadeloupe.
Locally, Alan Nérome and Dédé Michelet, from Quartier d ' Orléans, former player of the West Etoile, accompanied the St. Martin players.
Calvin Bryan indicated the Préfecture and Collectivité officials supported the initiative and participated in the financing of the youth project which unfortunately was not enough to cover the trip, but the young people expressed their strong desire to go to Guadeloupe.
