DOMINICAN REPUBLIC --Team Island Water World sailors Benoit Meesemaecker from St Barths and St. Maarten sailor Frits Bus joined a Laser training camp in the Dominican Republic.
Known for its reliable wind conditions the Dominican Republic also host one of the most prestigious laser competition in the Caribbean: “ the Midwinters“ in Cabarete. “ The race is normally held in January but was cancelled because of the lockdowns. The Midwinters attract European and North American sailors fleeing the cold to train in warm waters and windy conditions .
This was the first oppertunity for local and visiting sailors train again and get ready for the upcoming Master European championships in July in Italy and then the World Champioships in Barcelona in September.
Both Island Water World sailors hope to represent their respectively islands in these championships permitting organistion and travel restrictions.
Both sailors are also active in the national laser championship in St Maarten organised by the St Maarten Yacht Club.
