Wilson Sanon team seeking sponsors for new racing bike

MARIGOT--Top St. Martin cyclist Wilson Sanon who is now based with a club in France has been experiencing back issues due to his racing bike not being the right size, and consequently he has not been able to race to his full potential.

The bike that he had in Guadeloupe was the right size but there was not enough extension with the seat post for his height.

Coach Edmond Cocks explained they need a 60cm frame, preferably a high-end Trek SL7 to be truly competitive, but could settle for a lower grade model depending on what funds could be available. He indicated Tri Sport had offered to provide him a racing bike at factory price.

“He told me he did a 4-5-hour training ride and had so much back pain afterwards,” Cocks said. “So, what he does now is train on the time trial bike which is the right size and doesn’t give him the back problems. I’ve told him to try and train easy at 25 to 26kph instead 33 to 35 kph when he’s riding the other bike.

“We really want to get a new bike for him because he has a very good chance to go to the Espoir World Championships (young riders of ages 18-22) in Scotland in August 2023 with the Haitian team that invited him to be part of their selection. Because of his back issues he has missed the training for a race in April.”

Sanon was invited to be part of a Haitian team to participate in competitions serving as preparation for the qualifications for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, such as: La Vuelta Independencia. Also on the horizon is the Pan American Games scheduled for Santiago, Chile, in November.
