ST. EUSTATIUS — The St. Eustatius Swimming Association holds diploma swimming twice per school year. At a ceremony held on Tuesday at the swimming pool, Island Commissioner of Sports Rueben Merkman presented the diplomas to the young swimmers. The organisation is very active. Two swimming lessons where held on Tuesdays and followed by 2 classes on Fridays. Thirty-two pupils received their Dutch structured A, B or C diplomas. Fourteen received their A diplomas, 12 received their B diploma and 6 obtained their C diploma. The organisation has two certified Swimming instructors, Kishma Mc Donald and Carlos Lopes. Lopes also travelled to the island of Saba twice this year, once in March and second was in July to help out with swimming lessons on Saba. The St. Eustatius Swimming Association is looking into how they can provide Saba with a more structured swimming agenda where swimming lessons can be held twice per month in the beginning and the organisation hopes to build on that. The pupils that received their A diplomas are: Aiyannah Pompier, Shanayah Coutar, Jahmani Rivers, Shazijhé Horsford, Adonijah Coutar, Jionivia Simmons, Mary Mayombo, Arielle Woodley, Isabel Staal, Anabella Rene, Ana’ Rechaliyla Rene, Nurick Nicholson and Amaralysha Henry. Earning a B diploma were Wayvanie Spanner, J’naishely Redan, Rosalie van den Groenendaal, Xahir Cuvalay, Jahlisia Pieternella, Jahnilia Pieternella, Aston Boman, Charley Charles, Devenio Matthew O’Ahsia Dambruck, Dariel Feliz, Zuw-Jayla Suares Sirvania and Themissun Smith. Earning a C diploma were Luna Staal, Gimaleo Thomas, Mio Boman, Serena Blair, Lixanthé Lewis and Pieter van den Groenendaal.
