Child knocked down by car during group fight

ST PETERS—A 2 year-old boy became a victim on Sunday during a group fight on Passion Fruit Road after 10:00am. A white Picanto knocked down two adults and a child during the scuffle.

The adults were injured and transported to the St. Maarten Medical Center emergency room while the child died instantly on the street. Police Spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said it is still unclear what took place during the fight.

“A group of persons were fighting and the child was on the street at the time of the incident and a vehicle knocked down three persons during the fight. The driver left the scene after it happened and soon after surrendered to police officers near his home,“ said Henson.

Police detectives interviewed a number of witnesses   and hope to get enough information to find out exactly what took place. Additional information will be released once it becomes available, according to police.
