ANGUILLA--A recent WhatsApp message from Dee-Ann Kentish Rogers, former Miss Anguilla and now Miss Universe Great Britain, has updated Anguillians on what she has been doing since leaving Anguilla.
She said she was in London working closely with female genital mutilation (FGM) centres in London and raising funds for them. She has just returned from a trip to South Africa with the Miss Universe organisation where US $5,000 was handed over to a group of women called Black Mambas. They are a group that go out on patrol to reserves to prevent poaching of the rhinos and removal of their horns. She said these women are exceptionally brave and have been successful in reducing poaching. Funds were also donated to a group who have been victims of acid attacks and now work to empower other women.
She closed her message by thanking everyone in Anguilla for their continued support in helping her to take Anguilla onto the international stage. She is now preparing for the Miss Universe Pageant that takes place in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 17. She will travel there three weeks ahead of the event.
