MARIGOT--The 2018 security meetings with the public in St. Martin start Thursday and continue through Saturday, October 13, the Préfecture said. The event is designed to reinforce the link between citizens and professionals or specialised departments charged with their security.
The event begins on Thursday and Friday, October 11 and 12, with the Gendarmerie’s juvenile delinquency brigade raising awareness of security in the schools.
The main event will be on Saturday October 13, a discovery day organised in the car park of Marina Fort Louis, Marigot, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Here the public will be able to learn about the equipment, resources and missions of the Gendarmerie’s Brigade Nautique. There will be a presentation of a Gendarmerie patrol vessel and guided visits to vessels used by Customs and sea rescue service SNSM.
The public will also learn from criminology experts about the latest technology and equipment used in fighting crime and detecting false documents. There will be stands on road safety, the daily role of the Territorial Police, first aid, awareness of major risks, and recruitment information for volunteer firefighters, sea rescue volunteers, civil security, careers in the Gendarmerie and so on.
Undoubtedly a highlight for the public on Saturday will be the live demonstrations. A police dog team will arrest a suspect at 11:00am and at 11:30am one can have one’s motorbike or scooter tested with Territorial Police equipment. At 2:00pm the Fire Brigade (Pompiers) will demonstrate freeing a victim trapped inside a vehicle. At 3:00pm the arrest of a suspect by a police dog team will be repeated, as will the testing of one’s motorbike or scooter with police equipment at 3:30pm.
The Préfecture encourages the public to come out in large numbers on Saturday for this informative day.
