GUANA BAY--The St. Maarten Fire Department and the St. Maarten Police Force KPSM were called out to Guana Bay on Saturday afternoon because of a fire at a private residence. The fire was quickly extinguished before it could destroy the entire property.

According to the Fire Department, the fire started in the area of the residence’s outdoor jacuzzi, which was on the upstairs patio. The fire then spread via wooden items on the patio and into a bedroom and bathroom.

The Fire Department had the fire under control within 15 minutes of arriving on the scene. By that time the patio, as well as the bedroom and bathroom, had sustained substantial fire damage. However, the rest of residence was saved.

There was no one in the residence during the fire, said the Fire Department on Sunday.

How the fire started has yet to be established, and the Fire Department says an investigation is currently being conducted to determine its cause.
