The judge in a summary case filed at Bonaire’s courthouse by 17 islanders stranded in Europe due to the coronavirus crisis wants to hear from Curaçao-based Dutch Caribbean epidemiologist Izzy Gerstenbluth. Government is considering a test flight for 20, but the magistrate is seeking a solution for all 225 residents in total stuck abroad and not just the litigating group.
The problem is they must all be placed in mandatory quarantine at home for two weeks, but the medical personnel to do and monitor that with more than 50 people at a time is lacking. The expert must now advise if this number can’t be responsibly increased. “It would nice if this became 80, so it could be done with a few flights,” suggested the judge.
