MARIGOT--With festivities for the end of 2020 starting and a new tourist season, the French Overseas Ministry reminds the public of the obligation to take a COVID-19 test within 72 hours before flying to an overseas territory from France.
To limit circulation of the virus, it has been mandatory since July 2020 to present the result of a negative COVID-19 test carried out within 72 hours before departure, for travel from France to overseas territories. Controls will be systematic to ensure that the requirement is respected.
The negative test to be presented at boarding of flights to overseas territories should preferably be a negative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test less than 72 hours old, or failing this, a negative antigenic test sensitive to the VUI-2020-12-01 variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (clarification provided by the decree of December 23, 2020), the list of which has been published on the website of the French Ministry of Solidarity and Health.
The decree of December 23, 2020, takes into account the very rapid development of this variant in the United Kingdom (UK). To board the plane with complete peace of mind, the recommendation is to come to the airport with the RT-PCR or antigenic test sensitive to the VUI-2020-12-01 variant performed in the city.
Screening centres allow one to take the test directly at Paris-Orly or Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airports, but it is mandatory to make an appointment online. For those who are under the obligation to do the screening at the airport on the day of the flight, it is recommended to allow two hours between arrival at the screening centre and delivery of the result. In addition, the Ministry of Overseas France invites people wishing to travel to an overseas territory to inform themselves beforehand on the website of the Préfecture or the High Commission about restrictions in place to prevent spread of COVID-19.
