Ortega and Carty to represent large businesses on COCI board

PHILIPSBURG--Benjamin Ortega and Jennifer Christina Carty will be taking up the two available seats as representatives of large businesses on the St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce and Industry (COCI) board.

The two were the only persons nominated to contest elections for the openings on the board for large businesses and, as a result, they will automatically be accepted as successful candidates for the positions and there will not be any elections for these two posts.

However, elections will be held for representatives of the small business sector, as five candidates were nominated for the one available seat. The candidates are Anna Elaine Richardson, Cleon Giovanni Frederick, Ifelola Badejo, Carty and Ortega. The nomination period ended at 12:00pm November 19. Election for the available seat for a representative of the small business sector will be held on December 7.

Voters are urged to request and pick up their voting cards at COCI’s office from Thursday, December 4.
