Schools help clean Statia

Gwendoline van Putten secondary school and Golden Rock Roman Catholic and Bethel Methodist primary schools participated Monday in the fifth Annual Clean Up, in cooperation with St. Eustatius National Parks Stenapa.

Other stakeholders, such as the Disaster Committee, Caribbean Netherlands Science Institute, Statia Tourism, NuStar Energy and EJL Service came together in making the event possible. Pupils, students, teachers and volunteers removed waste and raised awareness about the need for proper waste management practices by all. “The focus on June 25 was to remind us that the only home for waste is garbage bins, as well as on proper recycling practices,” said Stenapa Director Clarisse Buma. Volunteers cleaned several areas in St. Eustatius, such as Orange Bay Road in Lower Town and Zeelandia.
