The impact of digital surveillance technology

From ever since the development of microcomputers, there’s a sharp increase in digital surveillance activities in diverse communities around the world. Although the microcomputer plays an important part in education and training, online shopping and searching the Internet, it can be a destructive tool for spying on businesses, personal data, hacking and information gathering. Digital surveillance technology should be a concern to everyone using the Internet for pleasure or business purposes. E-commerce is one of the biggest online enterprises in the world today. Tele-marketing also plays an essential role in this industry. Without customers a business perishes.

This why artificial intelligence and bar-code technology are closely associated with digital surveillance. Computers aid management in decision-making, while surveillance is mostly used for gathering personal and business information. Imagine, social robots can work in restaurants, dance with children and serve in the homes. Today there’s cashless society, where people can check out at e-tailing stores without cashiers or cash money. What else digital electronics cannot do? Many social media and other media outlets are using digital surveillance electronics to retrieved personal data from people in the community, even though everyone has a right to privacy and personal protection under the law.

Most media nowadays are asking people to go online and log in with an email address and a password to access personal accounts and information. Please beware! There are what are known as Internet “Whaling” and “Spear Phishing” attackers out there. They are attacking professional people as well personal data. Many businesses these days are following the trend asking people to log in into accounts for information. Be careful! Attackers can easily hack your information using spear phishing techniques. Those who believe in bit-coin activity, always remember bit-coin is a computer currency and can also be hacked.

Digital surveillance is connected with social media and the Internet. It uses a lot of gadgets and tools such as smart phones, voice recording, flat screen television, password identifications, cartoon facial images, to collect information and pass it on to other businesses for advertising purposes. Suppose weapons of mass destruction get into the hands of cyber hackers, or advance radar early warning systems used by 5th and 6th generation fighter aircrafts are hacked and fall into the wrong hands, it can be victorious in times of digital warfare for the enemy and catastrophic for the country that invests in these high tech arsenals.

It is almost the same if attackers hack into your personal account and steal all your information. Many online enterprises, government officials and private individuals are targeted daily by these attackers. Cyber-crimes are on the rise. It is difficult to stop them. Proper maintenance including frequent upgrades is necessary to prevent cyber attackers.

To sum up, digital surveillance is fast becoming the modern-day spying tool for information gathering and the e-commerce super cop of the 21st Century.
