Désirée Gamiette on the podium in first place following a recent running event.
MARIGOT--On Wednesday, October 23, Désirée Gamiette, an athlete from the Avenir Sportif Club de Saint-Martin, will be heading off with her coach, Patrick Trival, to take part in the French 5km championships, to be held in the town of Saint-Omer located west north west of Lille in the Artois province on Sunday, October 27, where she is entered in the U18 category. It was during her participation in the Islands Games in May, with the Saint-Martin delegation led by the Comité Territorial Olympique de Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélémy (CTOS) that the young athlete achieved the qualifying times over 3000m. For this trip, the athlete received support from the Centre d' Excellence et d' Éducation par le Sport (CEES) through its Aide Individuelle aux Compétitions Nationales scheme. This aid is designed to support local sportsmen and women involved in a performance and excellence development programme. This is the case for Désirée, who won two Guadeloupe championships in 2024. Désirée and her coach are aiming for a podium finish in their first appearance at the French championships, with the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA) Games qualifying rounds in February 2025 in their sights.
