MARIGOT--The 21st edition of Avenir Sportif Club’s 10K run on Sunday, February 16, was won by Martinique athlete Fabio Thaly from the Golden Star Club in a time of 32:12, eclipsing the previous record held by Alvin Nardin from Guadeloupe in 2024 who clocked 33:37.
Second place went to Michel Pradel, the 2023 winner, from Moule Running Club in 33:00 and third place and first female to Cécilia Mobuchon (Golden Star) in 36:26.
This year the race which starts in Lowlands and finishes on the waterfront in Marigot attracted 180 participants, a new record for the Avenir Sportif Club.
The very large number of competitors was attributed to runners coming from Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Maarten, Saint-Barthélemy, Anguilla and France. Several runners from SXM Roadrunners took part
There was one DNF (did not finish) and five disqualifications (DSQ). Next up for the Avenir Sportif Club is the Saint Martinoise, the 100% feminine 5K run and walk on Saturday, March 8.
