Curaçao win 2-1 at home to Dominican Republic in the 2017 Caribbean Cup

-St. Maarten, Aruba lose-

WILLEMSTAD--Coach Patrick Kluivert tasted success with Curaçao in the second game of Caribbean Cup qualification, as they beat Dominican Republic 2-1. St. Maarten is out of the regional competition following a 1-2 home defeat to the US Virgin Islands (UVI), as is Aruba after a 2-0 loss to St. Kitts and Nevis.

British Premier League (BPL) FC Southampton Saints defender Martina captained Kluivert's side, as they picked up a crucial three points in their bid to qualify for next year's Caribbean Cup.

After a goalless first half, Curaçao took the lead through Gino Von Ressel, but Edipo Encarnacion looked to have earned a point for Dominican Republic with just over ten minutes remaining. Shortly after though, Curaçao scored a controversial winner as Felitciano Zschusschen netted in the 81st minute.

That goal proved to be enough for Martina and his teammates, who will now await the result of Dominican Republic's clash with Barbados to discover whether they will advance to the second round of qualifying.
