Doram selected for Leeward Islands Hurricanes franchise

CUL DE SAC--St. Maarten National cricketer Daniel Doram was selected by The Leeward Islands Hurricanes franchise during the Professional Cricketers Draft which was hosted by Cricket West Indies, yesterday. 
Doram who joins Keacy Carty as the only St. Maarten players on the team is a left arm spinner and talented batsman.  


The draft was conducted for all six regional franchises; namely, Leeward Islands Hurricanes, Windward Islands Volcanoes, Barbados Pride, Guyana Jaguars, Jamaica Scorpions and Trinidad and Tobago Red Force. 
The main purpose of the draft was to allow teams to select two additional players to add to their 13 protected players. The other player selected by the Hurricanes was Antiguan Nino Henry.  
Doram has represented the Leeward Islands at the U15 and U19 levels. He last played for the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the 2018/2019 season when he played one match in that season.  
On the local T20 circuit, he has been batting and bowling outstandingly. He has 272 runs from eight innings with a top score of 78 runs. He is also the leading wicket taker for General Auto Repairs Spartans with 11 wickets. Doram is presently one the premier batsmen in the Spartans team and is only two runs behind Sherwin Peters with 274 runs. 
President of Cricket St. Maarten, Dwayne Elgin released a congratulatory message on behalf of the governing body for local cricket. “Cricket St. Maarten congratulates Daniel Doram on being drafted into the Leeward Islands Hurricanes Franchise. Daniel’s accomplishment means he has attained a professional cricketer’s status and he will now earn a living as a contracted player. This accomplishment should serve as a motivation and inspiration for young cricketers on St. Maarten.” the release stated. 
Starting July 1, 2021, a total of 90 professional cricketers inclusive of the 12 cricketers drafted today, will receive regional retainer contracts for the next twelve months. All six teams now have players to compete in the forthcoming season which will include the CG Insurance Super50 Cup and the West Indies Championship (4-day tournament).  
The full squad for the Leeward Islands Hurricanes is: Colin Archibald, Sheno Berridge, Jahmar Hamilton, Amir Jangoo, Kofi James, Kian Pemberton, Ross Powell Jeremiah Louis, Devon Thomas, Damion Williams, Tyron Williams, Terrence Ward, Carty, Henry and Doram.
