CUL DE SAC—The KFC Cup cricket action is warming up for scorching hot action, with Future Champs finally getting into the action at the Caribe Lumber Ballpark. The Future Champs team is filled with the most promising and exciting cricketers on the island.
These youngsters have been showcasing their talents around the Northeastern Caribbean, St. Vincent, Trinidad and as far as Sri Lanka this year. Most of them have travelled overseas this year to play cricket. Nathan Edward represented the West Indies in Sri Lanka and is now a contracted Leeward Islands player. Edward, along with Michael Palmer, Tyanick Honore, and Chemequiko Landefort were in St. Vincent with the Leeward Islands U19 team. Israel Morton, Honore and Davenand Singh played for the Leeward Islands U17 team in Trinidad. Captain Kyshawn Charles travelled to Anguilla regularly for their T20 tournament. These youngsters are expected to raise the level of excitement with their aggressive brand of cricket.
Future Champs are scheduled to play Sun Insurance Jaguars on October 8 from 1:30pm. The badly wounded Jaguars, who have lost their first two matches, are running into some red-hot talent on Sunday. The Jaguars will also be hampered without Captain Landefort and their leading run scorer Palmer, who must play for Future Champs.
Additionally, Motorworld Heat, already with a win in the tournament, is slated to play Lucian Rangers. For the Heat, their inspirational Captain in Kelbert Walters and the consistent Anil Persaud are expected to lead from the front. They were the outstanding players when the Heat inflicted the loss to the Jaguars. On the other hand, the Rangers are an ambitious team but stumbled badly to lose their opening match against the Masters. They will depend on Stephen Evans to shine in the batting department, while Thomason Marquis is a matchwinner with both bat and ball. In the first match for this weekend, General Auto Repairs Spartans will take on Veterans on Saturday from 1:30pm. The Spartans have convincingly won both their matches. Look out for the in-form players in Captain Kenroy David, Akeem Saunders, Sherwin Peters and Akeem Charles for the Spartans. The Veterans have a few players who are expected to give a fair amount of resistance against the more fancied Spartans. Elias Aristhee, Reginald Joseph and Tommy George are the experienced players for the Veterans. 13-year-old Jethan Edward, along with Kyle Thompson and Tyreek Ettiene are the youngsters expected to add energy and vitality to the Veterans. All three matches are important as teams jostle for points and a move up on the leaderboard.
At present, Spartans is the leader of Group A with four points from two wins, while in Group B, Masters are on top with four points from two wins.
