Miami 2 St. Maarten schedule announced

PHILIPSBURG—Boxing card Miami 2 St. Maarten will feature Roy Jones Jr. against Danny Santiago at Festival Village August 29. Tickets start at US $50 with ringside seating set at $100 and a VIP table that seats 10 goes for $2,500.


The schedule for events leading up to the fight and the after match concert were announced at a press conference at the Claude Wathey Legislative Hall yesterday. Attending the conference were Erno Labega from the St. Maarten Boxing Association, Archie Keaton of AK Entertainment, Rudy Engel of Minister Claret Connors Cabinet, Marla Chemont of the Tourism Bureau, Gus Priest Head of the Tourism Bureau and Milton "Bobby" Ottley of Best of Sports Entertainment (BOSE) Promotion.
Festivities begin August 27 with a Roy Jones Jr. Legacy Tour from noon to 3:00pm. The tour hosted at Divi Little Bay will include an autograph session with Jones as well as back to school giveaways, donated by Instrumentsinabotttle.org, to 250 local students.
Later that night comedian J. Anthony Brown will host a VIP Black Tie dinner. The dinner will be held at Sonesta Maho Hotel and Casino Resort in the Royal Pavilion Room starting at 6:00pm.
The weigh in which is open to the public is scheduled for 2:00pm August 28 at Casino Royale. That evening the Pre-fight celebration will be held at Sky Beach Night Club at the Sonesta. Featured will be Tami Roman, DJ Touch and DJ Outkast. Cost is US $15.
Action in the ring the following day begins at 6:00pm and is set to finish by 10:00pm. In addition to the scheduled 10 round main event Jones versus Santiago their will also be both amateur and professional fights on the card.
In the cruiserweight division Francisco Palacios from Puerto Rico with a record of 23-3-14 will face Ricardo Campillo of Mexico with a record of 9-8-7 in an eight round match.
In the featherweight class Braulio Santos of Puerto Rico at 12-2-1 takes on Bernardo Uribe at 14-4-10 in eight rounds.
The lightweights will battle for 10 rounds. Marcos Jimenez of the Dominican Republic at 20-5-13 faces Juan Beltran of Mexico who has a record of 29-24-18.
In the super middleweight class 7-0-4 Joel dela Paz of Puerto Rico steps into the ring for eight rounds against Miguel Munguia ay 31-33-25.
After the fight starting at 11:00pm the concert will feature Benjai and Soca Unit from Trinidad, Wale from Washington DC and local artists.
Tickets for the show are $40.
