SIMPSON BAY –With 19 boats competing in four different classes organisers described Sunday’s 2nd edition of Bart’s Bash in the Simpson Bay Lagoon as “a fabulous success.”
This global sailing event is organised as a valuable fund raising event for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation, allowing it to facilitate a range of sustainable projects, using sailing to transform the lives of children and young people globally.
The Sint Maarten Yacht Club, Lagoon Sailboat Rental and the Kidz at Sea Foundation joined forces in making the event possible. With a presence of 33 people in Optimists, Lasers, a Taz, Jeanneau 20’s and RS Visions, ranging from young beginners to professional sailors, there was a wonderful diversity in the fleet.
Smiling faces were being spotted all over the course and even though some of the races were very close, this event was all about having a fantastic time on the water.
“The conditions were incredible, with some intense wind shifts. Winds ranging from three knots to 15 knots made it truly challenging for participants during the five races,” a release from the organization stated. “It was a great opportunity for beginners to develop their sailing skills with the support of the experienced sailors. One race counted for the international results of the Bart’s Bash, the other four races were all for fun.”
Results for the Bart’s Bash race were as follows: Robbie Ferron and his skillful crew, Sarah Jane and Jessie Templeton, came in first place in the Jeanneau 20 class. Alec Scarabelli and Johanna Looser came first in the RS Vision class. Berg came in first place in the Optimist class and Bart van Vliet first in the Laser class.
The overall results of the second edition of the Bart’s Bash will be announced by the end of this week when all Yacht Clubs around the world have entered their results.
