MARIGOT--In a thrilling competition, the team from St. Martin shone at the Tour Cycliste de la Guadeloupe Cadets on July 5 to 9.
The ASM Club and Velo Club de Sandy Ground (VCSG), joined forces with Boris Carène's club CCD, and represented the island admirably. VCSG, with only one club represented by Jahiem Kennedy-Hodge, entered into an agreement with Boris Carène's CCD club for this competition. This collaboration bore fruit right from the first timed stage on Thursday, when Jahiem struck a blow by winning the time trial and taking the leader's yellow jersey, a historic achievement for St. Martin. Returning from the competition, Jahiem received a warm welcome from VCSG supporters at Grand Case Airport. ASM’s Klaxton Juliani took third place in stage one and seventh in stage two. The Territorial Cycling Committee noted it was the first time in the history of the Tour of Guadeloupe Cadets that a St. Martin rider took the yellow jersey. Jahiem continued to shine in the final stage, finishing second in the sprint behind ASM’s Klaxton Juliani. “Once again, St. Martin proved that its cycling talent is exportable. The overall competition ranking bears witness to the exceptional performance of the island's teams, said the Cycling Committee. “The performance of Jahiem Kennedy Hodge and the Saint-Martin teams is a source of pride for the island. Their success demonstrates the potential and talent of St. Martin cycling, and augurs a promising future for the sport in the region.”
