MAHO—The Sunset Beach Bar Triple Mini Triathlon takes place this coming Sunday, April 4, at Sunset Beach, Maho, starting at 7:00am.
The Mini Triathlon offers something for everyone, whether trying a very first triathlon or participating as a seasoned athlete, this is a fun challenge for everyone.
The event consists of three short triathlons starting at 7:00am, 8:00am and 9:00am. One can choose to do one, two or all three, however prizes will be awarded only to the participants who complete all three races.
The course description is: 200-metre swim off Sunset Beach, over a rectangular course followed by an 8.5K bike segment and a 2K run. The order is changed for each race.
The bike segment goes from Sunset Beach Bar towards the roundabout at Maho, then turns right to the airport and turning at the roundabout with the Pelicans before heading back to the Maho Roundabout. On the third turn at the Pelicans, competitors will be heading back to Sunset Beach Bar for the 2K run into Beacon Hill.
A good turnout of athletes is expected, including some from St. Barths. St. Martin’s leading triathlete Gregory Pigeon from SXM Tri Academie remains the favourite to win, however he has just entered the 40 plus category, leaving the possibility of younger athletes having their moment of glory.
Categories include Men, Women, Juniors, and Individuals only. Entry fee is US$15 and includes a great breakfast (US$10 for participants under 18 years).
The Morgan Resort will be raffling off a stay at the resort as one of the prizes. Registration is at Tri Sport in Simpson Bay or Marigot.
