CAY HILL----The St. Maarten Football Federation (SXMFF) hosted its second College Showcase last week. Three coaches were scouting from Universities in the United States.
The Football Federation held try-outs at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex, where coaches representing: Shaw University in North Carolina, St. Bonaventure University in New York and Huston-Tillotson in Texas were all present.
“We are very excited about this year’s showcase, because we have some great talent on display and this year with the relaxation of the COVID travel guidelines, we were able to host two additional colleges compared to last year,” Sudesh ‘Johnny’ Singh; President of SXMFF said.
Last year, following the first ever SXMFF try-outs, one student; Jean Jacques Craane was selected and received a scholarship to Shaw University in North Carolina, which he is scheduled to enroll this Fall Semester.
Coach Randall McClure scouted here last year and returned for another look.
“I am impressed at the growth of the players, since my last visit,’ he said. “Their level of maturity and how serious they take this opportunity is evident and very notable and I must also applaud the organization, for the improvements they have made to the facility and the grounds.”
After the try-outs, the coaches met with the parents and students, to share information and advice on how to get the children ready academically, to be able to take advantage of the opportunity should they be selected or to improve their chances of being selected.
The coaches also had the opportunity to meet the sponsors of the event, NAGICO Insurances, CC1 Sint Maarten, Nowhere Special Bar & Grill and Simpson Bay Resort & Marina.
