Two local fighters compete at OECS boxing championship

PHILIPSBURG--Davinio Carti and Jamaar Hilton represented St. Marten at the OECS boxing championship in St. Lucia. 

Carti went up against Zhavar Canick of Trinidad and Tobago in the 45kg class. Carti won by a split decision. Hilton faced Jousha Rene from St. Lucia. Rene won by a split decision. “It was our first time in the OECS boxing championship and we put on a good show so the rest of the Caribbean can see the talent we have on St. Marten,” said Shawn Blair from the local boxing federation. “We are proud that we were able to represent our beautiful island and I must say on behalf of St Maarten National boxing Federation thanks to the President of IBA Omar Kremlev. and AMBC President Jose Laureano for making it possible that we could be a part of the OECS invitational boxing championship.” Next month is the School boys and girls junior boxing tournament in Guyan. “We are looking forward to be participating in it as well so we are still working on the funding.”
