Carnival Fascination called after all

PORT--Cruise ship Carnival Fascination was in port Saturday.

The ship's captain berthed the large vessel alongside the pier at Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise and Cargo Facilities after 6:30am.

Word on Friday was that the ship, the only one scheduled to call this weekend, would divert to another destination due to the massive dump fire.

It was later learned that Carnival Corporation, a long time partner of St. Maarten along with its captain decided not to skip the port of call, but to set sail for St. Maarten's shore. Upon approach, they decided a final decision would have been made on whether to berth.

The decision Saturday morning was to berth and cruise passengers were able to spend their day ashore.
