Children’s Shark Day at Buccaneer June 9

PELICAN--Nature Foundation will hold its third children’s “Shark Week” afternoon full of fun shark-related activities at Buccaneer Beach Bar on Saturday, June 9, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Shark Week runs from June 8 to 16.

The activities, including beach games, quizzes, colouring, face painting and clay moulding, will focus on the importance of sharks for reefs, ocean, island and tourism. Sharks, as top predators, play a crucial role in maintaining balance and health within our aquatic ecosystem. They are also important for tourism, for example many scuba divers love to see sharks, which makes a shark worth much more alive than dead.

This year, children will also learn about shark science and Nature Foundation’s shark tagging research. They will learn the process to tag a shark and use the equipment. The general shark day activities are free of charge. There will be goodies and prizes to be won by attendees of all ages.

A special workshop focused on creating shark art hosted by artist Carla Templeton. The just over-an-hour long workshop, set for 1:00pm or 3:00pm, has a fee of US $10 per child. The workshop is for children age five and older. To register, e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

During all Shark Week events, attendees can support Nature Foundation by naming or adopting a tagged shark, purchasing 4Ocean bracelets or reusable shopping bags.

Shark Week is part of the Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance “Save our Sharks” project funded by the Dutch National Postcode Lottery.
