CAY HILL-- Flames United SC were crowned of the Sxm Unity Champions League champions after defeating C & D Connection FC 4-0 at Raoul Illidge Sport Complex, December 13.
Flames were gifted the lead in the 10th minute by a C&D own goal. Stephen Anderson netted in the 42nd minute giving Flames a comfortable lead right before half time. A double from Phillian Robinson in the 56th and 75th minutes sealed the deal for Flames.
The first game of the evening was for third place. AS Junior Stars faced FC Attackers. Armani Richardson put Attackers in front in the 26th minute.
Captain Yannick Bellechasse of Junior Stars pulled one back in the 86th minute to send teams into extra time.
Henry Ronaldo gave Junior Stars the lead at 90+11 minutes. Attackers level the score line 2-2. The teams went into penalty shoot out. FC Attackers were victorious winning 5 - 4.
In the award ceremony ,Youngest Participant was awarded to Mauvaes Noah, AS Junior Stars; Top Scorer went to Romario Hutchinson, C&D Connection; Best Goal Keeper was awarded to Mark Reid, C&D Connection; Fair Play award went to AS Junior Stars and MVP went to Eduardo Marquez of Flames United SC.
The Sxm Unity Champions League was put together in collaboration with the President of the Saint Martin Football Association (SMFA), and the President of the Sint Maarten Football Federation (SXMFF). The League began on December 7, 2019.
The top three teams from both sides of the island competed in the first edition. C & D Connection FC, FC Soualiga and Flames United represented the Dutch Side and FC Attackers, AS Junior Stars and United Stars represented the French Side.
Both sides of the Island hope to expand the Unity Champions League across the region to include Anguilla and other surrounding islands.
